This Apple, Pumpkin and Sweet Corn Puree is a deliciously sweet and bright combination baby food. It’s a versatile puree for when baby starts solid food, and can be served warm or cold. It’s perfect in reusable pouches for a meal on the run!

If you’ve already introduced apple, pumpkin and sweet corn individually, then mixing them together is a yummy progression to puree combinations for babies. This combination puree is super easy to make and convenient too with these common fruit and vegetables.

Ingredients in Apple, Pumpkin and Sweet Corn Puree
A little note of thanks to Rafferty’s Garden (a brand of store-bought baby food) for this flavour combination idea! I adjusted their ingredient quantities to make sure that there is more vegetable content and less fruit content in this homemade version 😊.
This puree recipe uses just three wholesome ingredients:
Apples – Choose sweet red or pink varieties of apples, like Pink Lady, Fuji, Royal Gala, Red Delicious or similar.
Pumpkin – I use either Butternut Pumpkin (which I know is technically a squash and not a pumpkin!) or Kent/Jap Pumpkin.
Sweet corn – I use frozen corn, it’s easy and convenient! You could substitute it with fresh corn kernels if you like.

How to make Apple, Pumpkin and Sweet Corn Puree
As with all my puree recipes, I recommend using a pot and steamer basket on the stovetop to steam the fruit and vegetables. Then blend!
Scroll down to the recipe card below, to find exact ingredient amounts and full detailed steps for both regular and thermo cooker methods.
Step 1: Using a steamer basket and medium saucepan on the stovetop, steam the apple, pumpkin and frozen corn together until soft. Reserve the steaming water.
Step 2: Transfer the fruit and vegetables to a blender or food processor. With a little reserved water added, puree to your desired consistency.
THERMOMIX APPLE, PUMPKIN AND SWEET CORN PUREE:
Thermomixer? For convenience, I use the simmering basket in my Thermomix to steam the fruit and vegetables, and then blend this baby puree.

Perfect puree for reusable pouches
The consistency of this apple, corn and pumpkin puree works really well in reusable baby pouches!
This one, along with my Apple, Nectarine and Strawberry Puree and Apple, Broccoli, Pea and Spinach Puree, was a lifesaver when we travelled interstate with 7 month old Baby LJ.
I had thought the easiest option whilst travelling would be to buy commercially prepared baby food, but I also took frozen reusable pouches of homemade purees in my suitcase. Baby LJ refused the store-bought baby food – he literally had a taste on our first flight and then pursed his lips and refused to open them again 😂. My husband and I both tasted it too, and I have to say it was foul. I couldn’t blame him for going on a hunger strike mid-air!
My frozen baby food pouches got us through the first few days of travel until I could make some mashed vegetables for him. I use Sinchies [1] reusable pouches. I haven’t tried others so can’t compare, but these work for me 👍.

Serving
This Apple, Pumpkin and Sweet Corn Puree is a really versatile puree, and one that works for breakfast, lunch or dinner when starting solids.
It’s ideal for both Stage 1 (around 6 months of age) and Stage 2 (around 6-9 months) of weaning baby, as you can adjust the texture to suit your baby. When made smooth, it’s perfect for reusable pouches too for meals on the run.
Storing and reheating
STORING: Store this puree in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freezer for up to 1 month. I found that freezing different fruits and vegetables in individual portions worked best, using baby food or silicone ice cube trays. Or, you can freeze in reusable pouches to grab out and defrost as needed.
REHEATING: This puree can be served warm or cold. If serving warm, reheat in short bursts in the microwave, in a covered container until steaming hot. Stir it well to avoid hot spots, and then allow it to cool to a safe temperature for baby. Remember to be food safe when freezing, defrosting and reheating any baby food.

Apple, Pumpkin and Sweet Corn Puree
Category: PuréeIngredients
- 500 ml water
- 1 apple peeled and roughly chopped (approx. 170g) (Note 1)
- 110 g pumpkin peeled and chopped into 3cm/1 inch cubes
- 60 g frozen sweet corn
Instructions
- Place a steamer basket over a pot with up to 500 ml water (keeping the water level below the basket so the fruit and vegetables won't be submerged). Bring the water to the boil over high heat on the stovetop. Add 1 apple, 110 g pumpkin and 60 g frozen sweet corn to the basket, cover with a tight-fitting lid and reduce the heat to a simmer. Steam for 12 minutes until apple and pumpkin are soft. Remove from the heat and reserve the cooking liquid.
- Blend the fruit and vegetables with 2 tbs of reserved water, using a blender, food processor or electric hand blender, until you are happy with the consistency (Note 2).
Thermomix Instructions
- Put 1 apple, 110 g pumpkin and 60 g frozen sweet corn into the simmering basket.
- Pour 500 ml water into the mixing bowl. Insert the simmering basket and cook for 12 minutes, Varoma, speed 2, MC on. Remove the simmering basket. Reserve the liquid in a jug.
- Put the apple, pumpkin and sweet corn and 2tbs reserved water into the mixing bowl. Chop for 1 minute, speed 7, MC on, making sure to increase the speed gradually to avoid the fruit and vegetables immediately sticking to the sides of the mixing bowl. See Note 2 on consistency.
