A nourishing kids breakfast smoothie

The mango brings a delicious natural sweetness, the apple adds freshness, and the oats give just a little extra to make it satisfying without being heavy.

Whether your child is just getting into smoothies or you’re looking for a new flavour combo to mix things up, this Apple and Mango Smoothie is a winner!

Ingredients in Apple and Mango Smoothie

This is a gentle smoothie for little tastebuds. Here’s what you’ll need to make it:

Fresh Apple – I love using a sweet red variety, like Pink Lady or Royal Gala. Keep the skin on for extra fibre if you like, or peel it if your child prefers a smoother texture.

Frozen Mango – This gives the smoothie that cool, creamy consistency without needing ice. You can also use fresh mango and add a few ice cubes, but I find using frozen fruit gives more consistent, flavourful results.

Milk – We use full-cream dairy milk at home, but feel free to substitute your preferred milk (just remember, not all milk alternatives are recommended for children under 2 years of age [1]).

Rolled Oats – Just two tablespoons helps this smoothie keep tummies full a bit longer.

That’s it! Four simple ingredients, blended together for a creamy, naturally sweet smoothie that’s perfect for toddlers and kids.

How to make Apple and Mango Smoothie

This is such a quick and easy smoothie recipe – perfect for breakfast on the go or a nourishing afternoon snack. Simply add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blitz until completely smooth.

Thermomixer? Yes, you can definitely use your Thermomix for this one! Just add all the ingredients to the bowl and blend until smooth. But honestly? I still use my little Nutribullet most mornings – it’s easier to clean! 😁

You’ll find the recipe card below, with ingredient amounts and detailed steps for both regular and thermo cooker methods.

Serving and storing

This recipe makes around 575 ml/20 fl oz, which is ideal for one older child or two younger children. Serve immediately in a cup or glass.

You can also freeze any leftovers in a small airtight container or even an ice cube tray for up to 3 months. Then, defrost in the refrigerator overnight and stir well before serving. It’s a great way to prep ahead or save any extras.
