Strawberry Puree (No-cook)

This fresh Strawberry Puree for baby is naturally sweet, vibrant, and full of flavour – perfect for babies just starting solids! With only one ingredient and no cooking required, it’s one of the easiest homemade baby food recipes you’ll ever make. Simply blend fresh strawberries and you’re done in minutes. This strawberry baby food is delicious on its own, stirred through yoghurt, or added to oatmeal or cereal.

And it’s not just for spoon-fed babies! Spread it onto pancakes for Baby Led Weaning (BLW) or a toddler snack. You can even freeze it into popsicle moulds for an instant cool-down toddler treat on a hot day.

This puree is a fantastic baby-friendly way to use up sweet, juicy strawberries when they’re in season and at their best. And guaranteed to be enjoyed – I don’t think I’ve ever met a kid who didn’t love strawberries?!

Ingredients in Strawberry Puree

You need just one fresh ingredient to make this strawberry baby puree:

Strawberries – Choose ripe, sweet strawberries for this puree. They should be bright red with no white tops or green patches, and smell fragrant. The sweeter the strawberry, the better the puree will taste.

I usually use around 250g of strawberries for this recipe, which is one small punnet in Australia. You can easily scale it up though. I don’t recommend scaling down, because the amount will be too small for your blender or food processor to work effectively.

Can you use frozen strawberries? Yes! Just allow them to defrost before pureeing. I don’t recommend re-freezing for baby though.

How to make Strawberry Puree

This is a true five-minute baby food recipe! Just 2 steps!

Scroll down to the recipe card below, to find exact ingredient amounts and full detailed steps for both regular and thermo cooker methods.

Step 1: Wash and hull the strawberries. Halve them if quite large.

Step 1 of Strawberry Puree process, washing and hulling the strawberries.

Step 2: Blend until smooth. Because strawberries are soft and juicy, they blend easily without needing to be steamed or cooked. This makes them perfect for when you’re short on time.

Food processor tip: When using a food processor, you’ll need to scrape down the side of the bowl, chop and repeat a few times. Once the strawberries break down and become juicier, the food processor won’t need to be scraped down for the puree to blend.

Strawberry seeds an issue? If your strawberries have a lot of large seeds, you could strain the puree through a very fine mesh sieve. I find that my Thermomix is powerful enough to mill them, but even when I made this puree in a food processor the seeds didn’t seem to bother my boys.

Serving

This strawberry puree is really versatile, like most fruit baby purees! Try serving it:

  • On its own, as a simple fruit puree.
  • Swirled into natural yoghurt for a fruity snack.
  • With baby oatmeal or baby cereal at breakfast.
  • In reusable baby food pouches for an on-the-go snack.
  • Spread on pancakes for older babies and toddlers.

It’s also great served chilled, especially in summer, or frozen into small popsicles for a soothing treat for teething babies and toddlers.

Storing Strawberry Puree

This Strawberry Puree recipes makes about 3/4 cup. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. It also freezes really well, for up to 1 month.

I freeze it in baby food trays or ice cube trays, then transfer the cubes into labelled freezer bags. Frozen cubes can be defrosted overnight in the fridge and then served cold, or gently warmed if serving with porridge or cereal.

Always follow food safety guidelines when freezing, thawing and serving homemade baby food.

With only one ingredient and no cooking required, it’s one of the easiest homemade baby food recipes you’ll ever make. Simply blend fresh strawberries and you’re done in minutes. Ingredients

  • 250 g strawberries (Note 1)

Instructions

  • Wash 250 g strawberries thoroughly and pat dry with paper towel. Hull and halve them if large.
  • Using a food processor or blender, blend the fruit until you are happy with the consistency (Note 2).

Thermomix Instructions

  • Wash 250 g strawberries thoroughly and pat dry with paper towel. Hull and halve them if large.
  • Put the strawberries into the mixing bowl. Chop for 30 seconds, speed 7, MC on, making sure to increase the speed gradually to avoid the fruit immediately sticking to the sides of the mixing bowl. See Note 2 on consistency.

Recipe Notes

1. Strawberries – This recipe uses fresh, ripe strawberries. Taste one first! If it’s tart for you, it will be for baby too! If your strawberries are a little tart, you can mix this with a sweeter fruit puree (like banana or apple) to balance the flavour.
2. Consistency – Adjust the texture as needed – for younger babies/early weaning, blend until completely smooth. For older babies/later weaning, you can leave a little texture if appropriate for their stage.
3. Storage – Store in the fridge for up to 2 days or freezer for up to 1 month. Be sure to practice food safety [1] when storing, defrosting and/or reheating baby food. If using frozen food, defrost overnight in fridge and then reheat to steaming hot. Allow to cool before serving.
