You’ll love this healthier fruit dip

Store-bought fruit dips are often loaded with added sugars and artificial ingredients. This homemade Strawberry Fruit Dip is a wholesome alternative, made with simple ingredients that bring natural flavour and creaminess. The Greek yoghurt adds a protein boost, while cream cheese keeps it deliciously smooth.

It’s the perfect addition to a snack platter or as a light dessert option that’s healthier and kid-approved.

Ingredients in Strawberry Fruit Dip

Here’s what you’ll need to make this light and creamy fruit dip:

Cream Cheese – For the base of the dip, use a block of full-fat or low-fat cream cheese depending on your preference. In Australia, full-fat dairy products are recommended for children until at least 2 years of age to meet their energy needs [1]. Block cream cheese is best, not the tub spreadable kind, because it makes a thicker dip. The spreadable tub kind has a higher water content and will make a runnier dip. Let the block soften to room temperature for easier blending.

Greek Yoghurt – Adds creaminess and a subtle tang, plus a bit of protein. Plain Greek yoghurt works best and is recommended for family under 2 years of age, but vanilla-flavoured is a great option if you want a sweeter dip. Yoghurts can vary in thickness and this will impact the thickness/runniness of the dip – I use a full fat, thick Greek yoghurt.

Strawberries – Fresh strawberries add natural sweetness and a pop of colour. You can also use thawed frozen strawberries if fresh aren’t available.

Maple syrup – Just a little bit to sweeten the dip naturally without refined sugar.

Vanilla bean paste – Adds warmth and enhances the strawberry flavour. Vanilla bean paste has a slightly stronger taste than vanilla extract, but you can substitute it in equal measure.

Variations

For a flavour twist, try adding a teaspoon of lemon zest for a bright, citrusy twist. Swap out strawberries for raspberries or blueberries, or mix in a blend of berries for a different flavour. You can opt for flavoured yoghurts for family over 12 months, and match with different fruits.

Storing

This creamy strawberry dip can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. There’s no need to re-whip it before serving.

It can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Defrost in the refrigerator overnight, and stir before serving.
