Kid-friendly oat muffins
These oat muffins are kid-friendly, and such a great alternative to store-bought baked goods. Bananas are a key ingredient, and combined with rolled oats, make these muffins a filling snack for little bellies.
With the chocolate included in this recipe though, it’s recommended for children closer to 2 years old.
For another banana oat muffin recipe with no added sugar, try these Banana Oatmeal Muffins or Apple Oatmeal Muffins. They’re more appropriate for babies from 6 months old and both great Baby Led Weaning muffin options.
Ingredients in Banana Chocolate Chip Oat Muffins
You’ll need the following ingredients to make these oatmeal banana chocolate chip muffins:
Banana – Two medium-sized ripe bananas will give these oatmeal muffins the best flavour. Choose bananas with some brown spots. This shows that they’re ripe and naturally sweet!
Rolled oats – Oats are a filling wholegrain. They’re a great base for this wholesome snack.
Cacao powder – You’ll likely find this in the health food section of your supermarket. If you want or need to, you can substitute this with unsweetened cocoa powder.
Chocolate chips – I use dark chocolate chips. My kids and I love the slight bitterness of dark chocolate, which pairs really well with the naturally sweet banana. If you prefer it, you can use milk chocolate chips instead.
Milk – I’ve only tested this recipe with full-cream milk, but you can try with your preferred variety if you like. Let me know how it goes!
Egg – For binding and structure.
Vanilla paste – For added flavour. If substituting with vanilla extract, just remember that paste has a slightly stronger flavour.
Baking powder – The raising agent.

Serving and storing
These Chocolate Chip Banana Oat Muffins are best served warm. That’s when the melty chocolate chips are at their best! If not freshly baked, then reheat them in the microwave for just a few seconds.
Store the oatmeal muffins in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freezer for up to 3 months. To defrost, thaw in the fridge. These banana choc chip oat muffins have such a moist texture, that I don’t recommend keeping them stored at room temperature for any length of time.

Delicious! Love that the only refined sugar comes from the chocolate chips.
