Fluffy Baby Banana Oat Muffins make a great toddler snack.

Bananas are great for babies, containing important nutrients for growth like folate, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and potassium [1]. They can be introduced into baby’s diet when starting solids, usually at around 6 months of age. They’re a key ingredient in these healthy banana muffins!

I love that these banana oat cakes have no added sugar, relying on the natural sweetness of ripe banana for their delicious flavour. You’ll find no chocolate chips or added sweeteners like maple syrup or honey – a deliberate move to make these mini muffins the perfect snack for babies and toddlers. I often use dates as a natural sweetener, as I did in these similar Apple Baked Oat Cakes, but I just don’t think the banana version needs them. If you or your older kids have a bit of a sweet tooth that you’re trying to satisfy, you could add 3 pitted dates, soaked in hot water and then finely chopped. They’ll still be a healthy snack for the whole family!

This baby muffin recipe is a great way to use up overripe bananas. I always seem to have one or two with a lot of brown spots left over, that the kids refuse to eat! 🙄 I tend to freeze those ones. With these healthy banana oat muffins, you can use frozen overripe bananas, defrosted enough to mix through. Winning!

What you need to make Baby Banana Oat Muffins

You’ll need the following ingredients to make these baby muffins:

Banana –Two medium-sized bananas will give these oatmeal muffins the best flavour. Bananas with a lot of brown spots are definitely preferred – this shows that they’re ripe and naturally sweet!

Rolled oats – Oats are a nutritious whole grain, one of the healthiest in fact. They’re filling too, making this banana oat cake recipe a perfect breakfast or snack option.

Milk – I use full-cream milk, but you can try these with your preferred variety if you like. Let me know how it goes!

Egg – For binding and structure.

Vanilla paste – For a nice little added flavour in these oat muffins. If substituting with vanilla extract, just remember that paste has a slightly stronger flavour.

Baking powder – The raising agent.

How to make Baby Banana Oat Muffins

This is seriously such a quick and easy oat muffin recipe to make. Whether it’s in a high-speed blender, food processor or Thermomix, just throw the ingredients in and blitz together. You can have these prepped in about 2 minutes! Then just bake in the oven for 15 minutes.

See the recipe card below for ingredient amounts and detailed steps for both thermo cooker and conventional cooking methods.

How to serve and store these homemade muffins

These banana oat muffins are best served warm. If not freshly out of the oven, then reheat them in the microwave for just a few seconds. When serving these banana muffins to older babies for Baby Led Weaning (BLW), I recommend quartering them into small pieces to make it even easier for little hands and mouths. Never leave young children unattended when eating.

Store the muffins in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freezer for up to 3 months. To defrost, thaw in the refrigerator. These baby banana muffins have such a moist texture, that I don’t recommend keeping them stored at room temperature for any length of time.
