What you need to make Apple and Kiwi Puree
This is an easy two-ingredient homemade baby puree:

Kiwi fruit – Choose kiwi that are slightly soft when pressed but not squishy (overripe).
How to make Apple and Kiwi Puree
This is an easy puree recipe to make. Cook the apple and blend with kiwi fruit!
Thermomixer? Steam the apples using the simmering basket in your Thermomix. Steaming (rather than boiling) is often the best way to preserve both taste and nutrients. The cook times might vary depending on how small you’ve chopped the apple, so make sure you’ve cooked them until just soft. Then add the kiwi fruit and blend in your machine.
Conventional cook? Steam the apples using a steamer basket and saucepan, or a baby food maker/appliance. Once cooked, transfer to a food processor or blender, add the kiwi fruit and puree.
See the recipe card below for ingredient amounts and detailed steps for both thermo cooker and conventional methods.
How to serve Apple and Kiwi Puree
This apple and kiwi baby food is great to have on hand in the freezer, to mix into cereal for a quick baby breakfast or offer as a desert after dinner.
First stage weaning or second stage weaning?
This Apple and Kiwi Puree recipe is ideal for both Stage 1 (around 6 months of age) and Stage 2 (around 6-9 months) weaning. For first stage/younger babies, offer for the first time as a very smooth puree by mixing through a small amount of cooled boiled water, formula milk or expressed breast milk immediately before serving. Just be aware that kiwi (as with other acidic fruit) can sometimes cause a contact rash on baby’s sensitive skin [2]. Although not considered a top 9 allergen, kiwi fruit allergies are on the rise in school aged children [2]. If you’re concerned about making kiwi for baby, consult your child health practitioner.
For second stage weaning/older babies, increase the texture by blending/pureeing for less time. The great thing about homemade baby food is that as baby grows and develops, you can progress to new textures from runny/smooth purees to chunkier mashed foods, to serving appropriately chopped soft foods as you would for the family.
Storing Apple and Kiwi Puree
This fruit puree can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freezer for up to 1 month. If freezing, use baby food or silicone ice cube trays to freeze individual portions. They’re really handy to have prepared! As always, remember to be food safe when freezing, defrosting and reheating any baby food.
