Here’s my humble opinion – making your own baby food in a Thermomix makes life so much easier for busy parents! If you’re wondering how to make Thermomix baby food (or if the machine is worth it!), keep reading for my how-to and top tips.

Making baby food in a Thermomix is a fantastic way to save time while making sure your little one gets nourishing, homemade meals. Whether you’re steaming veggies, blending purees, or whipping up a quick porridge, the Thermomix makes baby food prep pretty simple and stress-free.

How to make baby food in a Thermomix

Making baby food in a Thermomix is really easy! Here’s a basic step-by-step guide:

  1. Choose your ingredients: Fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins (like chicken, fish, or lentils), and grains (such as rice or quinoa) all work well.
  2. Prepare & cook: Chop ingredients into small pieces and steam them in the simmering basket or Varoma. Or, add to the mixing bowl with liquid to simmer – I find this is the best way to cook meats for baby.
  3. Blend to desired texture: Use speed control to achieve the perfect consistency –— smooth for early weaning or chunkier as your baby grows.
  4. Store & serve: Cool the puree and portion it into small containers or silicone trays for easy freezing and reheating. 💡 Pro Tip – freeze purees in ice cube trays for easy portion control. Just pop out a cube when needed!

What baby food can you make in a Thermomix?

When first starting baby on solids, making purees in a Thermomix is really easy:

✅ Single-ingredient purees: Like apple, pear, pumpkin, carrot or sweet potato.

✅ Combination purees: Lentil and vegetable, or a fruit/veggie trio.

✅ Protein-packed baby meals: Chicken & sweet potato puree, salmon & carrot puree.

Tips for success

➡️ Steaming guide: Follow the steaming guide in your Thermomix’s The Basic Cookbook. You can then add to the cooking time if you need the vegetables to be a little softer for super smooth purees or early finger foods.

➡️ Adjust textures over time: As your baby grows, gradually move from smooth purees to mashed and soft finger foods by reducing the chopping time and/or speed.

➡️ Minimise salt & sugar: Babies don’t need added salt or sugar, so keep their meals as natural as possible when moving to family foods/table foods.

The final verdict

Whether you’re starting your baby on purees or simply looking for a convenient way to prepare nourishing family meals that baby can share, the Thermomix does make the process quick, easy, and relatively mess-free. From purees to textured meals, you can whip up fresh, homemade baby food in minutes, knowing exactly what’s going into each spoonful. 

I loved using my Thermomix for baby food prep when LJ was little! It saved so much time. Plus, I always felt good knowing he getting fresh, wholesome meals without added preservatives or unnecessary ingredients. I’d made my firstborn PK’s baby food too, but never had a Thermomix to help. It definitely made things easier!

But can you still make the same wholefood baby foods using old fashioned cooking methods? With or without the help of a food processor? Absolutely. It may just take a little longer, and create a few more dishes.
