These Real Fruit Popsicles (Icy Poles in Australia!) are a refreshing, naturally sweet treat made with 100% fruit and no added sugar. They’re perfect for hot days, teething babies (ideally from 9 months), toddlers and older kids who love an icy snack that actually tastes like fruit. Choose from three flavours: Watermelon and Strawberry, Pineapple and Raspberry or Peach and Passionfruit!

Each flavour is made by simply blending fruit until smooth and freezing. No cooking, no fancy ingredients and no hidden nasties! They’re a brilliant way to use up ripe fruit, introduce new flavour combinations and keep kids cool during warmer months. Best of all, you can make one flavour or all three depending on what you have on hand.
Fruit Popsicle / Icy Pole Flavour Options
- Watermelon and Strawberry: Light, hydrating and gently sweet with a squeeze of fresh lime for balance.
- Peach and Passionfruit: Tropical and creamy, with a lovely mix of sweetness and mild tang.
- Pineapple and Raspberry: Bold and fruity, combining sweet pineapple with the natural tartness of raspberries.

Ingredients in Real Fruit Popsicles
You only need simple, real fruit ingredients to make these homemade popsicles.
Watermelon and Strawberry flavour:
- Watermelon – Choose ripe, juicy seedless watermelon for the best flavour. Because watermelon has a high water content, it creates a light, refreshing popsicle texture.
- Strawberries – Use ripe, red strawberries with no white tops for natural sweetness.
- Lime juice – Just a small amount of freshly squeezed lime brightens the flavour without making it sour.
Pineapple and Raspberry flavour:
- Pineapple – Fresh pineapple gives the best flavour and sweetness, but canned pineapple in juice also works well. Drain it before measuring.
- Raspberries – These add a lovely colour and slight tartness. If your raspberries have large seeds, a powerful blender or Thermomix will help break them down.
Peach and Passionfruit flavour:
- Peach slices – Canned peaches work really well and provide consistent sweetness. Choose peaches in juice, not syrup, and drain them well.
- Passionfruit pulp – Adds a gentle tang and tropical flavour. Straining removes the seeds for a smoother, baby-friendly texture.
- Orange juice – Freshly squeezed juice helps thin the mixture and brighten the natural sweetness of the fruit.

Can you use frozen fruit?
Yes! Frozen fruit works well for all three flavours. Allow it to defrost slightly before blending so your blender or food processor can work effectively.
How to make Real Fruit Popsicles
These are quick, no-cook popsicles that come together in minutes – the freezer does all the work!
Scroll down to the recipe card below, to find exact ingredient amounts and full detailed steps for both regular and thermo cooker methods.
Step 1: Blend all ingredients for your chosen flavour until completely smooth. The mixture should be pourable with no large lumps.

Blending tip: A blender or nutribullet is best for making these popsicles. But a food processor can work too. When using it though, you may need to scrape down the sides and blend a few times, particularly with the Pineapple and Raspberry flavour. Once the fruit breaks down and becomes juicy, it will blend more easily. Depending on how powerful your appliance is, you may not get the same smooth texture.
Step 2: Pour the mixture into popsicle moulds. Leave a small gap at the top, as the mixture can expand slightly as it freezes. Freeze for at least 4 hours or until fully frozen.

Adapting the Recipe to Suit Your Popsicle Moulds
These popsicles are easy to adapt, whether you’re using baby-sized moulds, classic popsicle moulds or reusable silicone ones. Moulds come in all different shapes and sizes, so you may need to adjust the quantities a little to suit what you’re using.
Each flavour in this recipe makes approximately 300ml / 10.1 fl oz of mixture. The moulds I use hold 50ml / 1.7fl oz each and come in sets of six, which means one batch fills one full set perfectly.
LARGER MOULDS: If your moulds are larger, just increase the ingredient quantities proportionally. For example, if your moulds hold 75ml/2.5fl oz each and come in a set of six (450ml/15.2fl oz total), increase all ingredients by around 50%.
SMALLER MOULDS: If your moulds are smaller, you can reduce the quantities, but keep in mind that very small amounts may be difficult for some blenders or food processors to blend smoothly. In that case, it’s often better to make a full batch and freeze any leftover mixture in ice cube trays, then use the cubes in smoothies or yoghurt later.
Serving
These real fruit popsicles are a refreshing snack for babies (from 9 months), toddlers and older kids too.
- Serve straight from the freezer on warm days.
- Great as a naturally sweet dessert after meals.
- Perfect for summer parties or play dates.
- Ideal for teething babies, as the cold can be very soothing. Just allow the popsicle to soften slightly before serving, and supervise closely to ensure safe eating.
To release the popsicles easily, briefly run the mould under warm water. Then gently pull the popsicle from the mould and serve.

Storing
Store homemade popsicles in their moulds or transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag once frozen. Keep in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Remember to:
- Keep popsicles well sealed to prevent freezer burn and ice crystals.
- Label containers/bags with the flavour and date for easy tracking.

My boys have been loving these icy treats on hot summer days. And I’m happy to give them out when it’s 100% fruit, rather than sugar-loaded icy poles from the shop! Pineapple and Raspberry is our favourite 🙂
