Raspberry Bliss Balls for Toddlers and Babies

These Raspberry Bliss Balls (also known as energy balls, energy bites or snack balls) are great for toddlers, and older babies feeding by Baby Led Weaning (BLW). Raspberries give a burst of colour and sweetness without refined sugar, maple syrup or honey. The oat base provides numerous health benefits [1] for growing bodies, including plenty of fibre, making these balls a satisfying snack option.

The naturally sweet and tangy flavour of these raspberry balls are sure to be a hit with little ones. Just make sure you roll them into the right size for your baby/toddler or chop them appropriately before serving.

Ingredients in Raspberry Bliss Balls

Here’s what you need to make this easy raspberry energy balls recipe:

Frozen raspberries – Frozen raspberries are convenient and easy to use all year round. You can use fresh raspberries, but the flavour may not be as concentrated as the frozen berries. When recipe testing, I found that the texture was also a little different, with the fresh raspberry seeds being more noticeable.

Medjool dates – Just 3 pitted Medjool dates are used to add a touch more natural sweetness.

Rolled oats – Oats make a wholesome base full of fibre and nutrients.

Desiccated coconut – For that lovely coconut flavour. Shredded coconut works too, just chop it in your food processor first.

Coconut oil – A little coconut oil helps bind the mixture together. I use unrefined coconut oil, for a subtle, natural coconut flavour. You can use refined coconut oil too, which has a neutral flavour. Take your pick!

Water – To help soften and bind the base.

How to make Raspberry Bliss Balls

Conventional cook? In a food processor or blender, finely chop the rolled oats and Medjool dates. Add the raspberries, desiccated coconut, coconut oil and water, and process until everything is well combined. Roll the mixture into small balls with damp hands and then coat them in the extra desiccated coconut. Voila – you’ve got yourself a batch of delicious raspberry bliss balls!

Thermomixer? A Thermomix makes fast work of this energy balls recipe. First, finely chop the oats and Medjool dates in your machine. Add the raspberries, desiccated coconut, coconut oil and water, and mix until well combined. Roll the mixture into small balls with damp hands and then coat them in the extra desiccated coconut. Easy!

Damp hands, everyone! Bliss ball mixture can be sticky. Having damp hands when shaping and rolling means it won’t get stuck to your palms 😁. I find it easier and faster to first roll the mixture into a long log. Slice it into 20 even pieces, and then roll each piece into a ball.

You’ll find the recipe card below, with ingredient amounts and detailed steps for both conventional and thermo cooker methods.

Serving and storing bliss balls

Just like my Lemon Coconut Bliss Balls, these Raspberry Bliss Balls store well in both the fridge and freezer. They’ll keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Why not make a double batch and keep half in the freezer for those busy days? Having a stash of these yummy raspberry treats on hand makes healthy snacking super easy! I often pack these into lunch boxes straight from the freezer – they defrost perfectly by snack time.
