Mini Banana Chocolate Chip Oat Muffins are a yummy, wholesome and easy snack for toddlers.

Bananas are a key ingredient in these healthier chocolate oatmeal muffins. Bananas are great for children, providing essential nutrients for growth such as folate, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and potassium [1]. Oats are one of the healthiest whole grains, and combined with banana make these muffins a filling snack for little bellies. With the chocolate included in this recipe though, it’s recommended for children closer to 2 years old.

Ingredients in Banana Chocolate Chip Oat Muffins

You’ll need the following ingredients to make these oatmeal banana chocolate chip muffins:

Banana – Two medium-sized ripe bananas will give these oatmeal muffins the best flavour. Choose bananas with a lot of brown spots. This shows that they’re ripe and naturally sweet!

Rolled oats – Oats are a filling, nutritious whole grain. They’re a great base for this wholesome snack.

Cacao powder – You’ll likely find this in the health food section of your supermarket. If you want or need to, you can substitute this with unsweetened cocoa powder.

Chocolate chips – I use dark chocolate chips. My kids and I love the slight bitterness of dark chocolate, which pairs really well with the naturally sweet banana. If you prefer it, you can use milk chocolate chips instead.

Milk – I’ve only tested this recipe with full-cream milk, but you can try with your preferred variety if you like. Let me know how it goes!

Egg – For binding and structure.

Vanilla paste – For added flavour. If substituting with vanilla extract, just remember that paste has a slightly stronger flavour.

Baking powder – The raising agent.

How to serve and store oat muffins

These banana chocolate chip muffins with oatmeal are best served warm. That’s when the melty chocolate chips are at their best! If not freshly baked, then reheat them in the microwave for just a few seconds.

Oatmeal Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins are sweet and moist, with gooey choc chips.

Store the oatmeal muffins in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freezer for up to 3 months. To defrost, thaw in the refrigerator. These banana choc chip oat muffins have such a moist texture, that I don’t recommend keeping them stored at room temperature for any length of time.
