Blueberry Bliss Balls for toddlers and babies

These Blueberry Bliss Balls (also known as energy balls, snack balls or energy bites) are toddler-friendly and suitable for older babies following a Baby Led Weaning (BLW) approach too. They’re made with no refined sugar, honey or maple syrup – just fruit, oats and a few other simple ingredients.

Blueberries are full of antioxidants and a great fruit to include in your child’s diet. Combined with oats and a touch of coconut, these blueberry balls are yummy and satisfying

Just be sure to shape them to an appropriate size for your baby or toddler, or chop them up before serving.

Ingredients in Blueberry Bliss Balls

Here’s what you’ll need to make these blueberry balls:

Frozen blueberries – Frozen blueberries give these bliss balls a gorgeous colour and deep blueberry flavour. Plus, frozen blueberries are super convenient and available year-round. In recipe testing, I found that frozen berries worked best for flavour and a consistent result. I used fresh berries a couple of times and was disappointed!

Rolled oats – A wholesome and filling base.

Desiccated coconut – For rolling and a hint of tropical flavor. If you only have shredded coconut, just give it a quick blitz in your food processor.

Coconut oil – A small amount of coconut oil binds the mixture. Choose unrefined coconut oil for that natural coconut flavour, or refined coconut oil if you prefer a more neutral flavour.

Water – Just enough to blend the ingredients smoothly.

How to make Blueberry Bliss Balls

I love how easy these yummy blueberry balls are to make! Here’s a quick summary.

Scroll down to the recipe card below, to find exact ingredient amounts and full detailed steps for both regular and thermo cooker methods.

Step 1: In a food processor or blender, finely chop the rolled oats.

Step 1 of Blueberry Ball process, chopping the rolled oats in a food processor.

Step 2: Add the blueberries, desiccated coconut, coconut oil and water, then blend until the mixture comes together and is well combined.

Step 2 of Blueberry Ball process, adding the blueberries, desiccated coconut, coconut oil and water to blend.

Step 3: Use damp hands to roll the mixture into small balls, then coat them in extra coconut if you like.

Tip: Bliss ball mixture can be a little sticky – damp hands help a lot! I like to roll the mixture into a log, slice into 20 even pieces, and then roll each one into a ball. It’s faster, tidier, and you get even sizes every time.

Thermomixer? Thermomix bliss balls are really quick – the machine blends the ingredients in an instant. Just chop the oats in your machine. Then add the rest of the ingredients and blend, scraping down the bowl as needed. Roll and coat with coconut.

Storing bliss balls

These Blueberry Bliss Balls keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

I love having a stash of them ready to go – they’re perfect for lunch boxes, quick snacks or when you’re rushing out the door. You can pack them frozen and they’ll defrost and be ready to eat by morning tea.
