This fluffy Avocado Omelette is a fantastic breakfast idea for babies, toddlers and older children too. It combines creamy avocado with egg and just a sprinkling of cheddar cheese for a yummy, nutrient-packed omelette. Avocados are full of beneficial nutrients [1] like fiber and healthy fats, while eggs provide a rich source [2] of protein. Together, they make a really nutritious and satisfying breakfast!
Omelette vs. Omelet
This really is more of an Avocado Omelet, rather than an Omelette 😁. What’s the difference, you ask? An American style omelet doesn’t move the eggs around the pan like a French omelette, and so it stays fluffier rather than paper thin, and forms a golden-brown crust.
But I still can’t help myself, and fall back on the Australian/British English spelling 😂.
However you spell it, this baby omelet/omelette is super easy to cook (no fancy techniques!), and fall-apart fluffy for our little eaters.
Ingredients in Avocado Omelette
This baby omelette recipe needs just three ingredients, plus olive oil for cooking:
Avocado – Use a ripe avocado that gives slightly when gently squeezed. Ripe avocados have a soft, creamy texture that blends perfectly with eggs. If the avocado isn’t quite ripe, place it in a fruit bowl with bananas for a day or two to ripen faster.
Eggs – Fresh eggs, with shells intact and uncracked.
Cheese – Cheddar cheese is preferred for its flavour, but you could substitute with mozzarella if you’re wanting to lessen the sodium content. The cheese helps to bind the omelette together.
Olive oil – For frying the omelette.
How to make Avocado Omelette for baby
Making this Avocado Omelette is quick and simple. Start by mashing the avocado with a fork. Add the egg and cheese, whisking until smooth. Next, heat a small amount of olive oil in a nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Pour in the egg mixture and cook, turning once set to make sure the egg is fully cooked and prevent foodborne illness [3], especially if making the omelette for baby.
Thermomixer? Start by chopping the avocado in the mixing bowl. Add the egg and cheese, and whisk. Heat a little olive oil in a nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Pour in the egg mixture and cook, turning once set to make sure the egg is fully cooked.
You’ll find the recipe card below, with ingredient amounts and detailed steps for both regular and thermo cooker methods.
Serving this BLW omelette
Slice into omelette strips or omelette fingers for baby and younger children who can self-feed. The soft strips are great for Baby Led Weaning (BLW), as they’re easy for baby to grasp.
For older children, chop or not, and serve with tomato ketchup or relish.
This is a really versatile recipe, and easily adapted to suit adult tastes too! Season with salt and pepper, add a dash of lemon juice and/or coriander to freshen it up, and serve with a fresh tomato, red onion and coriander salsa for a yummy parent-friendly breakfast 😁.
Storing
This omelette is best served fresh, but you can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Reheat gently before serving to ensure it’s soft and safe for baby. Do not freeze.
